Sorgente and Passos on top at ABC 2015

The Australian Bowl-riding Championships 2015 celebrated its fourth year of bowl shredding, at the Bar Beach Empire Skatepark.  There was no denying the heightened excitement at yesterday’s epic battle as crowds watched in the action-packed event. Thousands gathered for the competition on Saturday 7th February 2015 and were treated to a spectacular showing of international and local talent.
All of the divisions were the strongest ever assembled, Alex Sorgente (USA) who took out the PRO title for the third year in a row, while Bruno Passos (USA) walked away with the MASTER’s title, Keegan Palmer topped the 18s & under and Poppy Olsen won the Girl’s Division.
The all-inclusive contest welcomes skateboarders of all skill-levels, ages and sex to compete for the total prize pool of $20,000AUD and the chance to win entry to one of the largest professional concrete series in the World; Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Bondi 2015.

The 2015 Australian PRO Wild card winners are George Richards (Newcastle, NSW), Jakob Robinson (Ballina, NSW), Renton Millar (Elwood, VIC) and Matt Kitai (Bateau Bay, NSW) and the 2015 Australian MASTER Wild card winners John Grey (Sydney, NSW), John Bogaerts (Newcastle, NSW), Nik Mendoza (Ourimbah, NSW) and Geoff Fletcher (Manly, NSW).

A true highlight of the day was when Lizzie Armanto (USA), who was the first female to ever compete and qualify for a PRO open division finals through ABC™ surprised skaters and guests by flying in early and dropping into the bowl.

“Today was a big thank you and acknowledgement to all the believers who have supported Australian skateboarding. It would be impossible to do an event like ABC without generous support and vision. That has come from Newcastle City Council, Destination NSW, GoPro, Red Bull, Z Flex, Goliath, The Clarendon, The Edwards and International Skateboarder’s Union. The rising level of talent in Australian skateboarding is the big thank you to everyone. The larger attendance by international professionals from; US, Brazil, Italy, New Zealand and England is the acknowledgement of how important Australia, NSW and Newcastle are to the global skateboard community. -Chad Ford
